Degassing Services
Solar Atmospheres has been offering degassing servies for metals for over 25 years in our vacuum furnaces. The vacuum degassing servies process removes contaminant gasses, such as hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, that are detrimental to the integrity of the metal used. Hydrogen is one of the more common interstitial impurities which require degassing. We provide degassing servies for purifying various metals, such as titanium, tantalum, and niobium. The degassed metals may be in large sheet, thick ingot, or powder form. Our customers may require degassing processes for materials with very small impurity levels (<100 ppm) up to very high hydrogen levels (several percent).
As part of metal reclamation process, Solar vacuum degasses large quantities of hydrided metal powders produced by crushing hydrided scrap. Solar has the ability, using its large assortment of vacuum furnaces coupled with its advanced operating technologies, to provide both hydride and dehydriding services to a diverse customer base. We have extensive experience in hydriding materials such as tantalum, niobium and titanium, primarily as part of an overall scrap metal recovery effort.
In addition to hydrogen impurities, nitrogen, moisture, sulfur and oxide impurities can also be removed through specific degassing processes. These processes may include use of high vacuum, reducing or inert sweep gases.
The Solar Advantage:
- A complete line of high vacuum high temperature furnaces from small R&D to large 12 foot
- Automated processing and precise temperature control
- Various inert or reducing gases available
- Access to a R&D technology team of scientist and metallurgists to help with set up design and process cycle development.
