Vacuum Brazing

Vacuum brazing, one of the strongest bonding methods available for metal joining, results in a bright, clean assembly.  A reliable, strong, uniform, leak proof joint is formed with an inter-molecular metallic bond.  As a batch furnace process that heats the complete assembly, vacuum brazing is especially useful when minimal distortion is important for small or larger assemblies.

Great advantages of vacuum brazing are the numerous applications where it can be used.  Complicated assemblies with thick and thin sections, odd shapes and inaccessible joints can be vacuum brazed.  Added to this capability, properly designed brazed joints can have strength greater than or equal to the base metal. Vacuum brazed assemblies come out of the furnace cleaner than the original part [component].

One or thousands of assemblies can be efficiently joined in one of Solar’s 40 vacuum furnaces (up to 36 feet long). Customized braze runs, strict quality control procedures and prompt shipment of your parts help ensure satisfaction with every job. Solar brazes to AWS, AMS and Mil-specs standards.  Applications include parts that must operate under stress in high temperature oxidizing environments like jet engine components. See Quality Page for details.

Through our foundational strengths—processing skills, furnace engineering knowledge, metallurgical consultation, and commitment to service—Solar has gained a reputation for quality vacuum brazing and responsive service. Our customers regularly express appreciation for Solar and its people going the “extra mile”. Taking on the challenge as a commitment to new types of work is evidenced by the R&D work done for universities and national laboratories. As a consequence of this service and expertise, Solar services many different markets that need the Metal Processing Advantage.
